A Dakota County employee who was harassed after she reported that co-workers ignored a smoking ban was awarded $117,000 in damages and $33,000 in lost wages by a jury on May 7, 1993.  The harassment took the form of refusing to pass essential information to her, leaving her alone in the dispatch office during busy times and refusing to speak to her when she greeted them.  See “County Worker Who Reported Smoking Violations Wins Lawsuit,” Minneapolis Star-Tribune, May 9, 1993, 3B.
