In re: Morelite Equipment Co. and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 56

A company adopted a rule limiting smoking for all employees, including management, to designated times and areas.  An arbitrator ruled that the policy is reasonable, given the employer’s obligation to provide a safe work environment and its right to manage and direct operations.  Furthermore, evidence of the possibility of a cigarette-caused fire was presented.
